Gunnar is the founder and Artistic Director of Gunnar Montana Productions, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit immersive theater company. He creates original productions from the ground up, developing the concept and choreography while designing and physically building the worlds in which they take place. His work is heavily influenced by queer culture and often explores identity, sexuality, masculinity, and the freedom to exist outside convention.

From his warehouse shop in South Philadelphia, Gunnar also specializes in corporate activations and large-scale installations. He works hands-on from the first idea through the final build, creating custom pieces for clients and collaborators including Mastercard, Comcast, Citizens Bank, Independence Blue Cross, the Philadelphia Flower Show and PHS, Trojan Condoms, Our People Entertainment, Skylark Events, Uncommon Events, and Empress Luxury Events.

Gunnar’s visual art is equally hands-on and constantly evolving. He creates everything from murals to handcrafted, pop art-inspired painting commissions, often experimenting with new materials and ways of presenting his work. His ongoing Go-Go Boy series celebrates queer identity and the male form through a playful look at sexuality, nightlife, and self-expression.

Photography and film have become another extension of Gunnar’s creative world. He develops and art directs photo shoots, creates custom backdrops, and works with Philadelphia photographers and filmmakers to produce original imagery and film. As a model and social media creator, Gunnar has built an audience of hundreds of thousands of followers, particularly on Instagram. He also works closely with Nasty Pig as a brand ambassador and has modeled for SCRUFF.

Across every medium, Gunnar’s work is driven by a desire to create distinctly queer experiences that bring people together. At the heart of it all is a passion for building community, chosen family, and spaces where people feel free to be themselves.
